Prosecution's final submission in the case of Jean-Paul Akayesu set for Thursday, 19 March 1998

On Thursday, 19 March 1998, the Prosecution will make its final submission in the case of Jean-Paul Akayesu, former bourgmestre of the commune of Taba in Rwanda, who is facing charges of genocide, crimes against humanity, and violations of Article 3 common to the Geneva Conventions. The final submission, the first before the Tribunal, will be followed by that of the Defence a week later.

Jean-Paul Akayesu is the first accused to be charged with crimes of sexual violence against female civilians.

The session is open to the public and will start at 9:00 a.m.
